With my head in the clouds

Finally feeling well enough to begin making up some more hot air balloons - 2 down eight to go.

Got to decide either to do a 'magnificent men in their flying machines' game or sell them on. However, they need crewmen, ballast bags and paint first.

One day the medicos will let me go back to a proper job but until then I'll play at being a model maker 😉

Post Christmas Charges everywhere

Last one for now - just celebrating that my right eye is finally working post stroke - I was lucky enough to purchase some original (but repainted) 21st lancers. 5 Wasn't really enough for a wargames unit , so digging in the spares box I found a large number of 'rocking horse cavalry' Adding appropriate smooth pith helmets from badly broken Devonshire figures, I constructed further lancers - up to 18 - 3 whole units.

They look really grand, must have taken a fair share of nerve to stand your ground against a regiment of lancers pounding down on you

Boer-ed at Christmas

Having spent Christmas with my Parents, I felt the urge to come home and make a mould to add more second pattern Boer infantry to the enemy box. This is one of those poses that just don't turn up - the at the ready pose 'yes' this one usually as a target figure for the target game. So 8 figures with the officer with pistol make one unit another 8 with officer at the ready will fill in as my second second pattern Boer unit.

Seven Dwarves, a future PM and Gentlemen in Khaki

Over Christmas I did some repairs from the spares box - Imperial Yeomanry (Broken legs) Dublin Fusilier (missing tail and broken heads - horses and riders) another spare CIV - missing rifle tip) Churchill as war correspondent and, as recasts) the nurses' seasonal ward panto (representing the seven Dwarves :) )

Several Absent Minded Beggars

The Boer War collection, using recasts and battered originals continues apace - forgive the photography but having finished them today, I offer you some battered examples of the Devons, Dublins and Buffs. These now join the 21st lancers in Khaki (Heroes of Ondurman) and Glosters ... and a few more blooming British Camel Corps :)

Andrew Rose has a lot to answer for, you know :)

Less M*A*S*H more mess

Currently adding to my ambulance fleet; post war round nosed version of the St. John Ambulance. It's a fixer upper but has taught me how these vehicles were put together as it arrived as a bit of a kit. Thank the Gods that someone does a decal for these ... my hands will never be steady enough now :)

Nice. Love seeing these. Lots of hours on the road.

Now here is something VERY different- a wooden soldier recently for sale on ebay @ £750!!!!!!!! It didn't sell.

So I sketched one on to some paper , then

traced it onto some Conti board, cut it out , then painted it & screwed it together, would anyone like one for only £700??? I didn't think so!!

The figure is about 9" tall

I spotted these in a souvenir/book shop in Halifax Nova Scotia. Who is in need of a Orca Quarter Guard lead by a drum major?

An unusual subject for me, but a set I finished painting yesterday of a "Blackjack" card table

in the" Wild West" made by Sarum Soldiers( now sadly not operating.

Everytime I see examples of Sarum's figures I really wish the moulds had ended up back with another casting company. They are fantastic 😁
